Understanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Does your child have a diagnosis of IBS? Or Does your child suffer from constipation and/or diarrhoea?

IBS is an acronym for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Thankfully, IBS does not damage the bowel or lead to other health problems, however it can impact on quality of life if not properly managed.

IBS refers to a disorder that involves abdominal pain and bloating, as well as changes in bowel movements. Some people experience constipation, while other experience diarrhoea, and some people will alternate between the two.

Most people can control their symptoms with diet and stress management.

Upon dietary assessment, Melanie can provide dietary recommendations to reduce the symptoms associated with IBS and improve quality of life for your child. For some children Melanie may discuss the Low FODMAP diet.

IBS can be challenging, but with the right diet and support in place you can achieve better health outcomes.
